Rare Virginia Grandfather Clock With Moon Dial ChandleeHere is a fantastic american tall case clock from the early 1800's that stands 90 1/2 tall to the top of the center finial, 18 wide and 9 1/2 deep. The clock has an 8 day time and strike brass movement that strikes the hours on a bell. Teh movement has recently been cleaned, oiled and new weight cables installed and is in excellent running condition and is also a very good timekeeper. The clock face has a seconds dial, a rotating moon dial and a rotating calendar dial which are all in good working condition. The clock face is signed goldsmith chandlee, who worked in winchester, virginia from the late 1700's to the early 1800's. The clock also comes with some very interesting information copied from the book six quaker clockmakers which tells about the clockmaker goldsmith chandlee and shows 12 pictures of his tall case clocks and dials. The clock case has nice slender proportions and is made of cherry wood. The clock case also has amny beautiful characteristics commonly seen on virginia clocks such as fluted chamfered corners on the waist and base, an applied panel to the base, quarter round cut outs at the top of the waist door and precise dovetails at the top side corners of the hood. The case has a wonderful mellow finish with a nice warm patina. It really is a fantastic lokoing clock. The glass in the hood door is very wavy and appears original. The locks on the hood doro and the waist door are in good working condition. Here is a great opportunity to own a rare piece of american clock history. The clock is ready to proudly display in your home or office and comes complete with the original winding crank, door keys and, if desired, easy to follow illustrated set up instructions.
